Move geometry

All guides

Use movement to reposition whole objects or reshape selected vertices, edges, and faces.

  1. Choose Object, Vertex, Edge, or Face mode.
  2. Choose the meshy Select tool.
  3. Select the object or components to move.

The Move button switches Gizmo (pressed) and Horizontal/Vertical (H/V) movement. meshy saves the choice. Changes keep component selection.

In Gizmo, drag an axis or plane handle.

For H/V, use the Godot Transform or Move tool. The Godot Rotate, Scale, or Select tool shows Gizmo movement and retains the H/V preference.

Drag a selected object or component to move horizontally on world XZ.

Dragging a hovered, unselected component selects it and starts movement after the drag threshold.

Key during movement Effect
Hold Alt Move vertically on world Y
Release Alt Resume horizontal movement from the accepted position
Press Shift after movement starts Lock the first dominant world X or Z axis

Initial Shift-drag starts rectangle selection in Vertex or Edge mode. Over a face or silhouette edge, Object and Face modes start extrusion.

The magnet enables snapping. The grid step sets its spacing: 32u = 1m.

World Grid aligns an anchor to grid coordinates:

Drag Anchor
Object drag Picked object origin
Object gizmo Host object origin
H/V component drag Original grabbed point
Component gizmo Selection pivot

Incremental snaps displacement from the drag start. Groups share one world offset to preserve distances.

The yellow point and link show displacement. Dimensions adds colored axis guides and signed distances, such as X +32u. Short screen segments omit guides and labels. Rejected movement keeps the last accepted guides and position.

Release finishes one undoable move. On release, Vertex and Edge moves merge coincident vertices and overlapping edges within the edited mesh. These moves also remove collapsed faces. meshy blocks other invalid moves at the last accepted preview. Component previews leave authored geometry unchanged until confirmation. Undo/Redo restores geometry and surviving component selections.

Escape restores the drag start. Focus loss cancels movement. Changes to mode, tool, scene, movement preference, or snapping also cancel it.

F focuses selected components, including in H/V mode. With meshy enabled, Shift+F over a selected meshy face focuses the cursor point. Just outside a silhouette edge, it focuses the adjacent hidden face center. The nearest face wins between overlapping selected objects. Empty space leaves the view unchanged. Focus shortcuts preserve selection.
