Choose and apply materials

A material controls a face’s texture and shading. The Material Browser lists built-in libraries and project materials.

  1. Enable meshy.
  2. Choose Object mode.
  3. Select a meshy object in the Scene tree.
  4. Double-click a material in the Material Browser.

To apply a material to particular faces:

  1. Choose Select.
  2. Choose Face mode.
  3. Select the faces.
  4. Double-click the material.

Assignment supports Undo and Redo. Save the scene to retain it.

A single click makes a material active. Its preview appears at each 3D viewport’s bottom left. New boxes use it. Assign in Face UV applies it to selected faces. Hotspot materials fit patches automatically during assignment and box creation.

Set Meshy > Material Browser > Scan Roots to include project material folders. The dock placement menu moves the browser to a side dock or bottom panel. Godot’s project layout saves Material Browser and Face UV positions, and restores them after extension reloads.

MeshyStandardMaterial3D, MeshyORMMaterial3D, and MeshyShaderMaterial support density overrides. The shader material also exposes its main texture.

meshy saves browser filters, groups, thumbnail size, and the active material per project. It also saves grid, display, lock, movement, and work-plane preferences. Plugin loads reset drafts, component selection, and tool choices, and start in Object / Select.

Assignment preserves saved lightmap UVs and native surface overrides when faces change material groups. LODs are simplified meshes for distant views. Meshes with saved LODs cannot change material groups. meshy reports this restriction and leaves the object unchanged. Density changes within the same groups preserve LODs.
